Details
Sister to a sandblasted version we received at the same time, this classic straight billiard from Yorgos Mitakidis is reminiscent of a Comoy's Blue Riband. Or at least, if that Blue Riband went on a diet and was fitted with a brindle stem. The beautifully contrasted classic may appear strictly canon, but there are hints of a modern flair. Yorgos' design language exaggerated the back cheeks of the bowl, giving the pipe some visual weight toward the bottom and contributing to a sense of forward momentum. There is even a kiss of plateau on the bottom of the bowl, which is certainly not a feature seen commonly in pipe of English or French heritage. The dark brushes of straight grain are accentuated by a gradual lightening of color, from a honey brown at the rim, to a paler tone at the bottom. There is enough visual detail here to occupy a wandering mind and yet retain the essence of what it means to be a pipe.
