Details
Deeply carved around the stummel with a thick walled bowl and then given a driftwood finish of pale tone and impressive detail, this handmade briar from Oregon pipemaker, Brian Orton, is further enhanced with a bamboo stalk shank and a soft stem of polyurethane, though the tenon is made from delrin as is the sleeve inside the mortise for a snug fit over several generations of use.. The dynamic textures from stem, shank, and bowl work well together and give this pale smoker an eye popping appeal with a cylindrical chamber just wide enough for an English or favorite burley based blend. The button and slot design add another layer of give when clenching the already soft material for a luxuriously comfortable clench, especially with the lightweight construction. A kiss of plateau graces the broad and channeled rim which, aside from the basic shape, is the only familiar part of this modern handmade, designed for form and function and destined for favorite status in any rotation.
