While restoring this round shank and deep chambered Castello Sea Rock lovat from Italy we discovered a small crack in the original stem on the right side of the face extending from the slot to the side of the button. It is still whole and unbroken but we decided to make a new stem just in case. Fitted flush and with a hand tuned slot and draft, it will only improve the smokability of this Italian rusticated briar. The chamber has been over reamed so a sodium silicate bowl coating has been added to ensure there are no future issues with burnout but the geometry is more conical than was original. The wall is thinner at the top but there is plenty of room to accommodate a broad leaf or favorite English blend.
