Dirk Heinemann Pipe Sandblast Olive Wood Tomato with Ivorite

Olive wood pipes, while not unheard of, are still fairly rare, especially at the artisan level of pipe making, and this brilliantly carved smoker from Dirk Heinemann is a remarkably pale and clean specimen of the material.  Dirk went a step further to set this pipe apart by applying a sandblast finish, capturing the long striations that swirl around the pipe and giving a distinctive texture that grips the fingers.  A simple piece of ivorite caps the shank and the result is another dramatic mix of texture and extremes in this highly smokable pipe.  Be aware that this pipe will color in time with use, becoming richer and slightly darker in tone, likely to bring out the rose and green tones inherent to the wood.
