Having learned the driftwood finish from artisan pipe maker, Roger Wallenstein, Steffen Mueller's is arguably much more conservative in his shaping and color choices, but still finds inspiration in the wild and exotic. This large velociraptor is frighteningly impressive in scale, design, and shape including a driftwood finish that is as perfect as the specimen of briar used for the pipe. Difficult to see in the pictures are the two indentations for eyes on each side of the bowl and the magnitude of so much grain perfectly oriented to the very unique shape. Swirled brindle makes a long and curved stem and the tactile sensation of touching the straight grain can't be overstated. While this is certainly an art piece, it is also definitely tuned to be a phenomenal smoker as well, with a smaller chamber perfect for a short smoke of English or a favorite virginia.
