Joe Hinkle Pipe Standing Fig with Bamboo and Plateau

This tall chambered and lengthy bamboo piece from Joe Hinkle is another great example of a pipe carver refusing to take shortcuts.  The bamboo is fitted directly against the stummel and the 4 knuckles are clean and proportionately perfect.  The finish on the bowl is a high contrast of honey and chocolate straight grain, and although he could have just topped the bowl and finished the rim smooth, Joe chose to let the plateau speak of its natural state in all its asymmetric glory.  All that would be enough to make any collector notice, but the draw on this pipe is nothing short of phenomenal.  This heirloom pipe will be passed down with a wink and a nod for many generations of smoking bliss.
