C. Kent Joyce Pipe Dancing Flame Horn with Insert and Brindle

Sometimes it is like magic.  A particularly good block of briar, which any pipe maker will tell you is all too rare to see through to the finished shape, presents itself and the artist's mind's eye begins to see the possibilities.  The promise of an image is formed in the creative ether, unfortunately often modified to adjust for the imperfections inherent to any organic material.  In this case, Kent's vision crystalized into this truly remarkable and sculpted pulchritudinous puffer.  The briar's natural density and orientation is consistent, dense, and flawless.  The sculpted contours of this amazing pipe are present everywhere, from the definition of the subtle ripples in the rim, to the perfectly placed seams that delineate the panels framing all of the beautiful birdseye and straight grain.  Finished in high contrast to showcase both the briar's character and the brilliance of the proportions.  The amazing stem work is evident in the deep slot and shaping of the classic brindle with an insert that is so well done, we're not entirely sure how he pulled it off.  The matching deep burgundy tone a perfect match to the finish and the use of plateau on the front of the bowl - as if the flame grew to wild and upon creation, split the wood itself.  Remarkable and amazing, this heirloom quality showpiece isn't just for show, it is a true smoker, engineered with every possible nuance to be a gorgeous smoker for the ages.  Bravo, Kent!  Bravo!
