Bill Walther Pipe Twisted Nautilus with Brindle
Item # WP205044Sold Out
Details
I'll admit, I am somewhat biased. The very first nautilus pipe I ever was fortunate enough to see and handle was a heartbreaking and tan finished smooth from Bill Walther many years ago at the Greater Kansas City Pipe Collectors show. As pretty as it was, it doesn't hold a candle to this jaw dropping and birdseye laden pipe. Turning the shape with the cross grain, Bill has managed to capture the very best orientation of the natural radial pattern, then celebrated the twist with a curved stem. Be sure to check out both the top and bottom pictures to get a sense of the dynamic shaping that went into this prize. Reinforced at the mortise with a perfectly positioned and deep ring of brass, this heirloom smoker is just the right amount of sophistication, mixed with rough hewn, and baked-in artistry to be captivating for many generations.
